School Programs

Surf life Saving WA delivers programs to more than 10,000 students across WA every year. Our programs aim to increase participates knowledge and awareness of aquatic environments, allow participates to learn lifesaving skills in CPR and First Aid.

Life Skills for Life

Life Skills for Life is a practical hands on 2 hour First Aid and resuscitation course developed specifically for years 6 and 7 students, which can be tailored to suit anyone over the age of 11. We offered this course not lonely to metro school but also country school. Teachers will receive a flip chart, First Aid manual and DRSABCD posters for the class, activity booklets per student. On successful completion of Life Skills for Life each student will be presented with a Surf Life Saving Life Skills for Life certificate.

  • Treatment of common injuries and illness
  • Bandages and Slings

SunSmart SurfSmart Presentation

The SunSmart SurfSmart Presentation is an interactive PowerPoint presentation covering the important topics of sun and beach safety. This includes dangers at the beach, surf environments, identification of lifesavers, wave types, rips, sea creatures, sun protection and satefy at the beach. The presentation can be tailored to suit any age group.

Beach Activities

Beach Activities are a fun interactive way to educate your students on the important aspects of the sun and beach safety, while increasing their skills and fitness in the water and on the beach. Important safety information is integrated into activities such as board riding, surf negotiation, swimming and beach games. Programs are concluded with Surf Life Saving style carnival for the students to practice their new skills.

Surf Life Saving WA School Cadets

Cadets WA is a State Government funded youth development program which aims to give all secondary school aged young people the opportunity to participate in personal development training that provides practical life skills; develops leadership, teamwork and initiative skills; and fosters qualities of community responsibly and service. Being involved with Cadets WA is both challenging and rewarding. It provides participants with the opportunity to learn new skills, experience different types of physical activities and have some serious fun!

Community Surf Rescue In School Program

The in-school program has been designed to enable teachers who hold their current Surf Rescue Certificate to train their students in the theory component of the course, during school hours. Once the theory is completed a SLSWA assessor will conduct the practical component of the course at the beach, over a 4 hour session. SLSWA will provide teachers with all the paperwork require to complete and assess the theory component. The in-school program provides students with a substantial discount, whilst providing flexible delivery options to teachers.

Duration
Four hour practical session

Pre-requisite
Must be a minimum of 13 years of age, complete a 200m swim within 5 minutes over a measured course and have completed the theory component of the course.

Course cost
$50.00 per person. Minimum group size of 15 students required. The price does not include the Public Safety and Aquatic manual. This can be purchased separately from SLSWA.

Validity
Community Surf Rescue Certificate is valid for 12 months
